Aging skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage caused by free radicals. Lines and wrinkles are also a result of naturally occurring muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest. Botox and Dysport deliver temporary improvement in moderate to severe frown lines and aid patients in achieving a softer, more youthful appearance.
How does Botox and Dysport work?
Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are prescription medications that are injected into facial muscles, temporarily suspending the muscles ability to move by blocking nerve impulses to the injected sites, thereby diminishing the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles. Additionally, these injectibles temporarily reduce muscle activity that can cause persistent lines to form between the brows.
Will Botox and Dysport change your facial appearance?
Results will reduce lines and wrinkles and soften facial features, however, usage will not radically change facial appearance. Proficiency in the administration of Botox and Dysport will result in a younger, more rested, natural look.
How quickly are results visible?
Botox and Dysport results will be noticeable in one (1) to seven (7) days after treatment. The injected areas may continue to improve for up to one (1) month.
How long does Botox and Dysport last?
Results vary person to person. Visible results have been shown to last up to four (4) months before additional treatment is necessary.
Are Botox and Dysport injections painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. As a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Sofer uses highly specialized techniques as well as a topical anesthetic cream to ensure patients are comfortable during the treatment process. Treatment of frown lines requires one (1) injection into five (5) areas between and above the eyebrows. Treatment time is approximately twenty (20) minutes.
