Laser Hair Removal
Lasers are useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, legs, back, arms, underarms, bikini line, lips, chin and other areas. Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute while large areas such as the back or legs can take up to an hour.
Cynasure Apogee Elite
The Apogee Elite™ Aesthetic Workstation is a versatile, dual-wavelength laser that features multiple wavelengths for procedures on both dark and light-skinned patients. The Elite provides effective treatments for unwanted hair, vascular lesions, epidural pigmented lesions and photo-aging.
Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure – it is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and does carry potential risks.
Prior to laser hair removal, you should avoid, plucking, waxing and bleaching for 4–6 weeks as the hair root needs to be intact for the laser light to be able to efficiently target.
You should also avoid sun exposure for 4–6 weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.
Laser Hair Removal Treatments
Just before the procedure, your hair should be shaved to the skin’s surface. The laser settings will be adjusted according to your skin color as well as the the color, thickness and location of your hair being treated.
Protective eye wear will be worn during the treatment. It is also necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a special cooling device. The laser pulse feels similar to the snap of a warm rubber band.
Aloe may be applied post-treatment for cooling and soothing relief. Follow-up appointments are required at intervals of 4–8 weeks depending on the area being treated. 6 treatments is the minimum recommendation. “Clean-up” treatments may be occasionally required.Laser Pre and Post Treatment Instructions
