Dr. Sofer’s Approach
Dr. Sofer is known for his attention to detail, surgical skill, and outstanding results, as well as his dedication to safety and optimal patient care. He employs a variety of innovative techniques and practices, including the no-touch Keller funnel. This device (which many say resembles a pastry bag) allows for the insertion of silicone breast implants without compromising their sterility. The Keller funnel technique offers many benefits, including:
- More precise implant placement
- Reduced risk of implant contamination
- Smaller incisions
- implant placement options
- Shorter surgery time
- Reduced risk of capsular contracture
In addition to breast augmentation, Dr. Sofer may recommend additional procedures to give you the best overall result. Many women often combine their breast implants with a breast lift, tummy tuck, or liposuction.

Choosing Your Optimal Implant
Today, there are many options for women undergoing breast augmentation, including implant type, shape, and size. Plastic Surgery Center of Fairfield offers a wide selection of breast implants for enhanced personalization and more customized results. Dr. Sofer will listen carefully to your cosmetic goals and work with you to select the implant that will best meet your needs.
Types of Implants
Saline breast implants: Filled with a very safe, sterile saline solution, these implants are FDA-approved for women 18 and older. Saline implants are known for their uniform shape, firmness, and supple feel. Many women choose saline implants because they take comfort in knowing that the implants are filled with a natural substance that will not harm the body in case of rupture.
Silicone breast implants: Silicone breast implants are typically described as feeling more like natural breast tissue. Silicone implants are also FDA-approved for safety, and periodic MRI or ultrasound screenings can assess the implants’ condition. Most women who visit Plastic Surgery Center of Fairfield choose silicone implants because of their natural feel.
Gummy bear breast implants: Gummy bear implants are the most current generation of breast implants and are made of a cohesive silicone gel that does not leak if the implant is ruptured. These implants are shaped rather than round. They also have more projection at the bottom of the implant and are tapered towards the top.
Round: Round implants are a common choice because they provide a fuller appearance with more volume in the upper breast pole, resulting in enhanced cleavage. These implants also come in various degrees of projection (profiles) to suit a variety of preferences and body types.
Shaped: Also, known as anatomical or “teardrop” implants, this option mimics the look and shape of a natural breast. Shaped breast implants provide more projection at the base of the implant, and are tapered at the top for a gradual sloping effect.
Choosing your implant size is a very personal decision. Implants are measured in liquid volume, or cubic centimeters (CCs), rather than bra cup size. Because finding the right size is so important for optimal aesthetic outcomes, Dr. Sofer offers the VECTRA® 3D imaging system. This sophisticated technology can simulate the effects of different implant shapes and sizes for a realistic rendering of your future body.
Cost of Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is typically billed as a one-time fee that includes your entire experience from start to finish. Generally, the associated fees may include:
- A 1-hour consultation with the doctor and nurses
- A 1- to 2-hour preoperative appointment. In this appointment, paperwork is reviewed and information is gathered regarding medications and follow-up appointments. There may also be implant section photos.
- Operating fees for the surgeon, staff, operating room, equipment, and anesthesia
- The cost of implants as well as all follow-up visits. There are typically 3 to 6 visits, which are about 15 to 30 minutes each. In these follow-up visits, there will be charges for equipment and bandages.
- A fee for post-operative photos; (if garments are used, they may or may not be included in the total charge)
- A 24-hour on-call surgeon who will factor into your total cost
Certain factors influence fees and pricing among plastic surgery practices, including:
- Geography (where you live/cost of living)
- Surgical time (this varies based on the complexity of your surgery)
- The skill of your doctor
- Implant choice

FAQs About Breast Augmentation
What are my breasts going to look like after my breast augmentation?
Plastic Surgery Center of Fairfield offers 3D imaging to help you select your ideal breast implants. A simulated avatar shows you the predicted results based on your implant choices and body type.
What are the potential complications?
All surgery involves some degree of risk, but complications are extremely rare.
Where is the surgery performed?
Safety is Dr. Sofer’s top priority. Your surgery is performed in an accredited surgery center or hospital. General anesthetic is always administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist.
What is the level of discomfort?
The degree of discomfort varies depending on each individual’s comfort level. The first 2 to 3 days you will receive pain medication and muscle relaxants. Pain subsides significantly after the third day.
How long is the recovery?
Most women need about 10 to 14 days until resuming normal daily activities. If you have surgery on Friday, you should be able to get back to work the following Monday. Full exercise is not recommended until about 6 weeks post-surgery.
Will I need to replace my implants?
Breast implants are not meant to be lifetime devices. However, many women enjoy their breast implants for several years without any issue. Unless the implant fails, there is no need to replace it.
